An Beal Gorm

Jim Johnston
An béal gorm
DDCD008, 2019
This CD offers a mixture of traditional and newly-composed Irish-language songs, as well as some instrumental tunes. Jim playes guitars, harmonica and also a copy of the medieval Trinity College harp, and is joined on some tracks by Chris McCabe and Jim Coyle on bass, organ and drums. The sound is big and modern, bluesy I would say, but the harp is effectively used. One track is an instrumental "An bhradóg bhréagach" on harp and guitars, sourced via Bunting from the 18th century Irish harper Daniel O'Donnell from county Mayo.
