The Wool merchant and the Harp
A very beautiful CD of 15th century English harp music. Leah plays a gothic bray harp and sings a selection of music based on the manuscript notebook of English wool merchant George Cely in the 1470s. The book details his accounts, including detailed expenses for his harp lessons with lists of titles and lesson contents. The CD booklet includes facsimile and translation of the relevant passages of the manuscript as well as a detailed scholarly commentary by Prof David Fallows. The artwork on the sleeve is very elegant and atmospheric woodcut engravings commissioned for the CD. The playing is very expressive and elegant, and the singing is very straight and natural, making this a really nice recording of this repertory.
