As the old Gaelic art music traditions died out in the early 19th century, so interest in Irish and Scottish heritage grew. Tunes were collected from the last of the old harpers, but re-cast in Romantic classical style for up-to-date fashionable performance in the salons of Dublin, Edinburgh, and London.
