The Romance and Prophecies of Thomas of Erceldoune
Llanerch reprint, 1991
This edition of the medieval poem was published in 1875, and this facsimile reprint gives the full text of the poem in multiple variants. The Romance is the fantastic story of Thomas visiting Elfland in the company of the Queen of Faerie, basically the same story as the sung versions that persisit in the living tradition. The Prophecies which follow on give a political and social commentary on late medieval Scotland. The poem is written in middle English which is a bit like Chaucer - if you take care then you can pretty much follow what is going on. There is also a substantial 50 page introduction.
