Music, Ireland and the 16th century
Siobhán’s new CD with The Irish Consort was recorded in 2013, and was first issued in 2018, but I have only just now managed
to get hold of copies for you! This excellent disc covers everything from solo Gaelic harping, sean-nos singing,
ecclesiastical plainchant, Tudor English lute songs, through to the lush Anglo-Continental consort music composed by
Irish harper Cormac MacDermott. It is a brave attempt to provide a soundscape for 16th century Ireland, from very
fragmentary and gappy sources. A lovely recording with very useful and informative sleeve notes.
