Shrine of the Stowe MissalThe shrine of the Stowe Missal used to contain an important early medieval book. The book is kept at the Royal Irish Academy, while the metal shrine is kept in the National Museum of Ireland. On the right side panel of the shrine is a metal plaque with high-relief figures of eccleasiastics. At their feet is a tiny squatting figure holding a stringed instrument. It is not clear whether this is most likely a harp or a lyre. Much of the decoration on the shrine, including the musician, dates from c.1030. Depictions - more ancient images of Gaelic harp players.
