Harper on a stone panel at Ardmore Cathedral

Ardmore

The cathedral at Ardmore, near Cork in the south of Ireland, is now a roofless ruin. It has a round tower beside it.

On the outside of the end gable wall of the cathedral, is a series of arcades with stone low-relief panels in them. The panels depict all kinds of old testament scenes. They date from around 1200, though I suspect they may have been moved and they may not be in their original locations now.

One of the panels shows David playing the harp for Saul.

Depictions - more ancient images of Gaelic harp players.
