Neal

John and William Neal, A Colection of the Most Celebrated Irish Tunes Proper for the Violin, German Flute or Hautboy, Dublin, 1724 - the first book of Irish tunes printed in Ireland. Nicholas Carolan's new edition is due out soon, but in the meantime I have one copy only of his very rare 1986 paperback facsimile edition with a useful introduction and notes on the tunes - Click here for more info.

August 2010

This is the first book of Irish tunes to be printed in Dublin. Many of the tunes are from the old Gaelic harp tradition - Click here for details at my Sources page. Nicholas Carolan published a facsimile edition with a good introduction and notes on the tunes in 1986; it is long out of print and hard to find. I have one copy (paperback) available secondhand for £45

For August we have a suprising selection of old and secondhand items. We specialise in tracking down hard-to-find titles, so if there is something you particularly want, let us know.

Donal O'Sullivan's editions of Edward Bunting's manuscripts are perhaps the most essential and the most hard to find books in this whole subject area. I have one copy of the 1983 Cork edition. The other book available this month is Carney's Medieval Irish Lyrics.

The Elizabethan Consort's LP William Lawes Consort Music from 1968 was the first to include one of the Harpe Consorts, and has never been re-issued. Dust off your turntable and enjoy the sounds of another era - in more ways than one!

Finally we have this intruiging sheet music from 1933, a lever-harp arangement of a 17th century poem by Rory Dall Morrison.

Visit the Emporium in person!

How to order

There are two ways to order items from the emporium; I don't mind which you use.
1. select the appropriate postage and click "add to cart". You can add lots of different items if you wish. Then click to go to the checkout and pay online with your credit or debit card. Postage is automatically calculated.

2. Phone me up or send an email (contact details below) and ask me whether what you want is in stock, or can be obtained. This works almost as quickly as using the shopping cart; also it works just as well for secondhand items and even ones I have not yet managed to get in stock. I'll give you a total price to pay (postage charged at cost) and you can post me a cheque (UK pounds sterling, drawn on a UK bank, payable to "Early Gaelic Harp Info"), or send money via PayPal/credit card, or make a bank transfer. Click here for more payment details including bank info and a credit card payment facility.

If there is an item you are looking for but which is not listed here, let me know - I may well be able to find it for you.

Please ask to be put on the mailing list, to be sent details of new additions to the stock.

Returns: If the item is not as described, please return for a full refund including all postage.
