A Chailini, an bhfaca sibh Seoirse

This tune was attributed to Cornelius Lyons (c.1680-c.1750), harper to the Earl of Antrim, by the late 18th century Irish harpers. For Bunting’s field notation for this tune, notated ‘live’ from the playing of Denis O’Hampsey, see the following facsimile manuscript pages at Queens University, Belfast:

The ground: Bunting ms29 p.42 (f20v).

The first variation: Bunting ms29 p.44 (f21v).

The second variation: Bunting ms29 p.45 (f22r).

Second part of second variation, and third variation: Bunting ms29 p.46 (f22v).

A version of this variation set was printed by John & William Neal, 1724
