Tarbh

Simon Chadwick - Tarbh is a CD of ceòl mór for the Scottish harp or clarsach.

Tarbh presents five large-scale compositions attributed to Raghnall Mac Ailein Òig. This grandly architectural music, taken from traditional bagpipe, fiddle and vocal settings, is here presented in new adaptions for solo clarsach.

For the dedicated listener Tarbh is a fabulous experience.

The ringing resonance of the replica Queen Mary harp's gold and silver strings creates a rich and evocative sound for these intricate and complex musical journeys.

To bring the music and the stories surrounding it fully to life, the CD booklet includes specially commissioned artwork by Ealasaid Gilfillan, which interprets and illustrates themes from each of the tunes in unexpected and insightful ways. The striking montage images evoke the symbolism of the tunes and the atmospheres of the West Highland landscape.

The sonority of the music, the beauty of the images, and the intrigue of the stories and poems printed inside, combine to make this a very attractive presentation.
